Fun With Scraps – Scrappy Quilt Patterns to Bust your Fabric Stash

It’s release day for Fun with Scraps! I share more information about the book, answer some frequently asked questions and link where you can buy the Fun With Scraps book.

Why did I write Fun With Scraps?

I began quilting in 2019 and have amassed quite a fabric stash and scrap collection over the past three years. Last year, in February 2022, when I released the free Scrap Dash quilt pattern, I realized how much I enjoyed working with the fabrics I already had in my stash and going through all of my scraps to pull fabrics for that project. So much so, that I began focusing most of my creative energy on making quilts only with my scraps and fabric on hand.

I ended up unofficially embarking on a year plus long journey creating with only scraps and designing a collection of patterns that helps you envision how to create with scraps. Many of the patterns were block based, which I believe makes creating with your scraps easier, although there are a handful of patterns that are an overall design, and not block based. I decided that presenting these patterns in a book made more sense than releasing individual patterns one at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Fun With Scraps Book

Are the quilt patterns in Fun With Scraps beginner friendly?

Yes! I believe all the patterns are beginner friendly. All patterns have instructions on how to traditionally piece all blocks, however, there are three patterns that also include FPP templates. These FPP templates are available in the bonus book contents online that can be accessed through QR codes in the book.

How are the patterns in the book formatted?

As mentioned above, the book has both block-based patterns and the full design patterns. All patterns are written with materials and cutting instructions needed for one size of the project. Then you have instructions on how to make one block if it is a block-based quilt, or the various blocks needed if it is a full design quilt. Each block-based quilt also has a table that shares other sizes and number of blocks needed if you wish to size it up or down.

The book also includes tips and tricks on how to tackle your scraps and use them in projects, binding instructions, and photographed projects also note the name of quilting edge-to-edge designs.

Will you be sharing quilts from the Fun With Scraps Book on your blog?

Of course! I will be sharing some blocks and projects from other makers next week in a blog hop/round up and then I will be sharing weekly blog posts with some of my favorites from the book, including the Fun With Scraps Sampler Quilt.
