Leveled Up Modern Strip Quilt Pattern

I’m so excited to be sharing my newest quilt pattern, the Leveled Up Quilt Pattern. I originally designed this pattern in early 2020 and made a Rainbow Watercolor Batik Leveled Up quilt in the lap size and then made another one in a 2 color variation using Art Gallery Fabrics in the baby size for a dear friend who was having a baby.

I was so new to writing quilt patterns that at the time I could not figure out how to present this pattern so it was easy to read and maker friendly, however, fast forward 2 years and I’ve finally perfected the pattern for release!

Leveled Up is for the ambitious beginner and includes three size options from baby all the way up to a throw size quilt. All three sizes can use 2.5″ precut strips (aka jelly roll strips) for the focus fabrics and the background fabrics.

Leveled Up is available in the It’s Only Fabric and Thread shop.

JELLY ROLL FRIENDLY MODERN QUILT

Leveled Up is a really great modern quilt pattern because it requires jelly roll strips. For this particular version, which is the throw size Leveled Up Quilt, I used 2 Jelly Rolls. One was focus fabrics and one was the background fabric. Specifically I used a Kona Roll Up in Coal and a Riley Blake Designs Rolie Polie by Corri Scheff in her Sonnet Dusk Collection.

LEVELD UP QUILT PATTERN

Leveled Up is a fun and modern jelly roll friendly quilt pattern. All three sizes allow for the use of yardage or jelly roll strips.

Leveled Up comes in three sizes and has instructions for two different layouts: Multicolor or 2-Color. The Leveled Up quilt pattern includes:

  • Baby Size – 34″ x 38″
  • Lap Size  – 56″ x 68″
  • Throw – 64″ x 76″ (This Sonnet Dusk Leveled Up Quilt is the multicolor throw size)

Leveled Up is also a great stash buster quilt. You could easily make a multicolor version using left over jelly roll strips or even some of the fat quarters in your stash. You could probably even use your scrap stash to make a fun scrappy version like this one!

RILEY BLAKE 108″ WIDE BACKING FABRIC

For this quilt I used a 108″ Wide backing from Riley Blake. This fabric is Adel in Autumn by Sandy Gervais in shade Cream and the 108″ wide backing is so much easier than having to piece the backing.

LONGARM QUILTING THE THROW LEVELED UP QUILT

I used to quilt all of my own quilts using my sewing machine but time has become more limited so I’ve started sending most quilts off to a long arm quilter. For this specific quilt I entrusted Michelle of Quilted Elephant Studio to work her magic.

When I dropped the quilt off we choose a medium gray thread that would blend with most of the colors and the Kona Coal background fabric.

I had originally told her to surprise me with the quilting pantograph for this throw Leveled Up Quilt but after we talked, we settled on one of the new Longarm League Pantographs called Thread Garden.

Below is the quilt fresh off the long arm machine and the pantograph just blends beautifully on this quilt!

FINISHING THE LEVELED UP THROW QUILT

I decided on a deep pink, almost maroon binding to finish this quilt off. Since Sonnet Dusk has so many deep colors and lots of fun prints I figured a solid would really frame the quilt well.
