I’m so excited to be sharing my newest quilt pattern, the Leveled Up Quilt Pattern. I originally designed this pattern in early 2020 and made the Rainbow Watercolor Batik Leveled Up quilt in the lap size and then made one in a 2 color variation using Art Gallery Fabrics in the baby size for a dear friend who was having a baby. (I even made a Throw size Leveled Up quilt along side the amazing pattern testers for this pattern in January and February 2022.)
I was so new to writing quilt patterns that at the time I could not figure out how to present this pattern so it was easy to read and maker friendly, however, fast forward 2 years and I’ve finally perfected the pattern for release!
Leveled Up is for the ambitious beginner and includes three size options from baby all the way up to a throw size quilt. All three sizes can use 2.5″ precut strips (aka jelly roll strips) for the focus fabrics and the background fabrics. The pattern also includes yardage measurements.
Leveled Up is available in the It’s Only Fabric and Thread shop.
ART GELLERY FABRICS MODERN BABY QUILT
Leveled Up is a really great modern quilt pattern because it requires either yardage or jelly roll strips. For this particular version, which is the 2 color baby size Leveled Up Quilt, I used Art Gallery Fabrics yardage. I really wanted to show off Sharon Holland’s Fleuron Sanctuary Print from her Kismet Collection and use a coordinating pure solids.
LEVELD UP QUILT PATTERN
Leveled Up is a fun and modern jelly roll friendly quilt pattern. All three sizes allow for the use of yardage or jelly roll strips.
Leveled Up comes in three sizes and has instructions for two different layouts: Multicolor or 2-Color. The Leveled Up quilt pattern includes:
- Baby Size (This Art Gallery Fabrics Leveled Up quilt is the baby size)
- Lap Size
- Throw
Leveled Up is also a great stash buster quilt. You could easily make a multicolor version using left over jelly roll strips or even some of the fat quarters in your stash. You could probably even use your scrap stash to make a fun scrappy version like this one!
QUILTING AND FINISHING THE BABY SIZE LEVELED UP QUILT
For Christmas in 2020 I received a new Janome MC6650 and I was so excited to use the multitude of decorative stitches to quilt this baby quilt. I decided to try the wavy stitch with a neutral thread that would blend into the pink and red of the quilt top. I also used a black thread that would blend into the backing fabric as well.
After I had finished the quilting, I decided that I wanted a binding that would pop and pull the fun yellow from the Fleuron Sanctuary Fabric. I decided on Riley Blake Confetti Cottons in Daisy since it was a close match to the yellow in the fabric.
GIFTING A MODERN BABY QUILT
I was so excited to gift this baby quilt to a sweet college friend when her little girl was born in March 2021. I can’t wait to watch her grow up and use this blanket throughout her childhood.
