IOFAT Creative Convos with Sheila S. of Thirty4Stitches

I originally connected with Sheila S. of Thirty4Stitches via Instagram. I had recently moved to Georgia and she was just up the road from me, but also had family in the same town I moved to. Sheila began her long arm quilting business in March 2020 and it has continued to grow over the past few years. I almost always let her choose the quilting design and thread color and she never disappoints! Read more about Sheila's business and creative area below. Also be sure to check out how you can connect with Sheila and Thirty4Stitches at the bottom of the post.

Please explain your main creative area.

Long Arm Quilting using a Gammill quilting machine.

Tell us about your business and what your favorite thing about your business is.

I am a longarm quilter and I absolutely love to see the creativeness of each quilt. I love to receive a note from the maker about the quilt or even about what is going on in their own lives. The stories behind the quilt and quilter are priceless.

What has been your favorite make or creation so far?

My next one is always my favorite. I think one that stands out is the quilt I made for my Son and Daughter-in-law’s wedding gift. The pattern was Crest by Amber at Alderwood Studios.

What is one tip you'd recommend to someone just getting started in your creative area?

Don’t undervalue your work just because you’re new. Once you get started, your work will speak for itself and word will spread.

What are 3 words you'd use to describe your creative style?

    1.  Colorful
    2.  Simple
    3.  Solids

Do you have an upcoming make, launch, or project that you are excited about?

I look forward to others new projects since I simply help finish your projects!

What is one skill (either craft related or not) that you wish you knew how to do?

Knit or Crochet. Just never took the time to learn

What would your high school superlative be? (Most likely to...)

Most likely to follow the rules.

What's the oddest food you've ever tried and did you like it?

Raw Octopus. Definitely not my favorite. To chewy.

If you had to lose one of your five senses, which one would you give up and why?

Smell. I think it would be the easiest to live without and still be “normal”

Lastly, where can the readers connect with you and see more of your work?

You can always send me a message on Instagram @thirty4stitches. We also have a website with all of our quilting information: www.thirty4stitches.com

IOFTA Creative Convos are bi-monthly short Q&A style blog posts that allow me, Katherine, to share other wonderful creatives and small business owners in not only the quilting space but in the creative fiber arts and textile space.

The goal is to provide a seat at the table for all types of small business creatives and to introduce my community to businesses that they may not have connected with yet.
